GWIA Traffic vs. User based reports - Detailed Explanation

Resolution

Explanation of GWIA traffic and user based reports

In this version there are additional Internet Agent reports. This is to accommodate different types of statistics. There are two types of statistics we can get from the GWIA.

The first type of data is traffic related data. This pertains to the actual number of messages coming in and going out, and to whom those messages are destined. These stats are recorded on a per message basis. Meaning when a message comes in that is addressed to several users, only one message is counted. Traffic related data comes from verbose GWIA log files. Reports based on this type of data will have the “Internet Agent Messages” label in the “Query on Table” section of the Internet Agent based reports.

The second type of data is user related data. This data is specific to the number of messages each user gets, regardless of how many times the message is actually stored in the GroupWise system. What this means is if a message with multiple recipients comes into the GWIA, each user it is addressed to a message will be counted. The
effect this has on the data is that one message can be recorded several times for each sender/recipient. Traffic reports would not be accurate coming from a data set such as this. User data, as pertaining to the Internet Agent, comes from nightly accounting files (ACCT files). Reports based on this data will have the “Gateway Accounting” label in the “Query on Table” section of the Internet Agent based reports.
